  6. What did Abram tell Sarai to say in Egypt?

  7. What did Pharaoh do to Abram because of Sarai?

Simplified

Abraham obeys God’s call to leave his home (v. 1–3). What does this teach us about trusting God? How does God’s promise to bless all nations through Abraham point to Jesus?

Intermediate

  1. Why does God choose Abraham, an ordinary man (v. 1)? What does this show about how God works through people?

  2. Abraham builds altars (v. 7–8). How does worship help him trust God’s promise?

Advanced

  1. The promise to Abraham (v. 3) is fulfilled in Christ (Galatians 3:8). How does Genesis 12 initiate a new creation narrative, with Abraham as a new Adam in Christ?

  2. Abraham’s journey to Canaan parallels Israel’s exodus. How does this typology prefigure Christ as the true Israel who leads us to the promised land (Hebrews 11:8–10)?

Genesis 13: Abraham and Lot Separate

Factual Recall

  1. Who went with Abram out of Egypt?

  2. What did Abram and Lot both have a lot of?

  4. What did God tell Abram after Lot left?

  5. How many people could count Abram’s descendants?

  6. Where did Abram move his tent after that?

  7. What did Abram do near Hebron?

Simplified

Abraham lets Lot choose the land first (v. 9). How does this show faith in God’s promise? How is Jesus’ generosity like Abraham’s, giving us what we don’t deserve?

Intermediate

  1. Why does Lot choose the land that looks good (v. 10)? What does this teach about trusting appearances?

  2. God renews His promise to Abraham after Lot leaves (v. 14–17). How does this show God’s faithfulness?

Advanced

  1. Lot’s choice of Sodom foreshadows its destruction. How does this contrast with Abraham’s faith, and how does Christ’s righteousness secure our inheritance (Romans 4:13)?

  2. The land promise (v. 15) points to a cosmic inheritance. How does this connect to the new heavens and earth in Revelation 21, fulfilled through Christ?

Genesis 14: Abraham Rescues Lot

Factual Recall

  1. Who were the four kings who fought against five kings?

  2. Who did the four kings capture?

  3. Who told Abram that Lot was taken captive?

  4. How many men did Abram take to rescue Lot?

  5. Who met Abram after the victory?

  6. What did Melchizedek bring to Abram?

  7. What did Abram give to Melchizedek?

Simplified

Abraham fights to save Lot and meets Melchizedek, a priest-king (v. 18–20). How does Melchizedek point to Jesus, our true Priest and King (Hebrews 7:1–3)?

Intermediate

  1. Why does Abraham risk his life for Lot (v. 14)? What does this show about love and loyalty?

  2. Abraham gives a tithe to Melchizedek (v. 20). How does this act of giving honor God?

Advanced

  1. Melchizedek’s bread and wine (v. 18) evoke the Lord’s Supper. How does this prefigure Christ’s priestly work, and what does it suggest about communion in the church?

  2. Abraham’s victory over kings (v. 15) parallels Christ’s triumph over powers (Colossians 2:15). How does this establish Abraham as a type of Christ in God’s redemptive plan?

Genesis 15: God’s Covenant with Abraham

Factual Recall

  1. What did Abram ask God about?

  2. What did God tell Abram to look at?

  3. How many years did God say Abram’s descendants would be in a strange land?

  4. What animals did Abram cut in two?

  5. What did Abram do when the birds came down?

  6. What passed between the pieces of the animals?

  7. What did God promise Abram about his descendants?

Simplified

God makes a promise by passing through the animals alone (v. 17). Why does God take the promise on Himself? How does Jesus’ death keep God’s promise for us?

Intermediate

  1. Abraham believes God, and it’s counted as righteousness (v. 6). What does this teach about faith?

  2. Why does God use a dramatic covenant ceremony (v. 9–17)? How does this show His seriousness?

Advanced

  1. The covenant-cutting (v. 10) involves God alone passing through. How does this unilateral act prefigure the cross, where Christ bears the curse for us (Galatians 3:13)?

  2. Abraham’s faith (v. 6) is central to Paul’s theology (Romans 4). How does Genesis 15 shape the doctrine of justification, and what does it reveal about Christ’s role?

Intermediate

  1. Why does Sarah mistreat Hagar (v. 6)? How does sin hurt relationships in this story?

  2. God names Hagar’s son Ishmael, meaning “God hears” (v. 11). How does this show God’s compassion?

Advanced
